Tested Labs is Maine's medical cannabis (medical marijuana) testing lab for patients, caregivers and dispensaries.

Tested Labs is owned and operated in Maine, led by Dr. Dustin Sulak of Integr8 Health and Maine Integrative Healthcare. Under Dr. Sulak's direction, this laboratory has been developed to meet the expanding needs of doctors, caregivers, and most of all, patients.

Cannabis is a versatile medicine with dozens of applications.  Various strains of cannabis offer different therapeutic qualities.  After consulting with thousands of patients, Dr. Sulak and his colleagues have found that identifying the content of active constituents in herbal cannabis and its various preparations can guide strain selection, dosage, and processing to improve treatment outcomes and patient safety.

Tested Labs will accept test samples of medical cannabis from certified patients, licensed caregivers and registered dispensaries in Maine.   Our analysis will show you the levels of THC, THCA, CBD, CBDA, CBC, CBG and CBN in cannabis flowers, tinctures, concentrates and edibles.   These results provide our adult and pediatric patients with the information necessary for precise, consistent milligram dosages of tinctures and other liquid extracts.

We use High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) to perform cannabis potency testing.  We follow published extraction and testing methods to be as accurate and precise as possible in our results. We are currently developing additional testing techniques that will expand our services to include detection of pesticides, heavy metals, molds, and other toxins.

HOW IS YOUR TESTING METHOD DIFFERENT TO OTHERS OUT THERE?

Tested Labs is using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Gas Chromatography (GC).

  • High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) - provides the most accurate and reliable results for cannabinoid potency testing (our current method).  The sample is extracted into liquid without heat allowing for the differentiation between raw and heat-activated cannabinoids. Samples are auto-injected into the system and the cannabinoids are separated and quantified by HPLC instrumentation.

  • Gas Chromatography (GC) - Current GC methodology allows for terpene analysis, residual solvent identification, and pesticide screening. GC cannabinoids profiles are almost always inaccurate.  The sample is burnt upon injection. Therefore GC cannot differentiate between raw acidic cannabinoids and decarboxylated (activated) cannabinoids.   GC is ideal for testing essential oils' terpenes and volatile chemical residues that evaporate, not fatty acid-like cannabinoids the primary active ingredients in cannabis.

  • Thin Layer Liquid Chromatography - is a fast and inexpensive technique that provides estimates, but not precise measurements, of cannabinoids.  Human errors are common, and results can also be influenced by changes in temperature, humidity, and other environmental conditions.  This technique does not provide the accuracy required for medical applications or pharmaceutical drugs. This technique uses and produces the greatest amount of hazardous materials.

HOW DO I SUBMIT SAMPLES FOR TESTING?

  • We accept samples during our walk-in hours:
